Robert, originally of Foxworth, Mississippi, served his country bravely in Vietnam where he was shot five times and received a Purple Heart and Bronze Star.  After leaving the Army, Robert moved to McComb, making it his home and spent the next 25 years as a locomotive engineer before retiring from the Illinois Central Railroad.  Robert loved to cook and was known for his excellent gumbo, natural storytelling with great comedic timing and an incredibly giving spirit.  He loved his daughter, Andrea, his special friend of 27 years, Patricia, and her family whom he adopted as his own.  He loved animals, especially his dog, a lovable rescue, Sam.  After retiring, he could often be found drinking coffee with friends.

Robert was preceded in death by: his parents, Luther and Vivian, and two brothers, Lavon and Jimmy.  He is survived by: a daughter, Andrea Godwin McCoy; her husband, Calvin McCoy; a brother, Charles Godwin; nieces, Vivian Marie, Evie Walley and Anna Godwin; his special friend of 27 years, Patricia Simmons Skipper; her daughters Melissa Fortenbery, Melanie Smith and Amy Schwartz; as well as a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
