Huey P. Wingate, 84, a resident of McComb, entered into the Kingdom of God and was greeted by his loving wife, Olyease, on Sunday, January 22, 2017, at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center surrounded by his loving girls. He was born June 19, 1932, in Independence, Louisiana. Shortly after his birth, his family moved to McComb, MS. He was the son of John Henry Wingate and Alice Williams Wingate Gillman. He was retired from MP&L with 46 years of service. He was a longtime member of New Heights Baptist Church and was a U.S. Army veteran. He was an avid CB enthusiast and was president of the My My CB Radio Club. He enjoyed woodworking, making things for family and friends and was a very generous, helpful and loving person. His family was his world and will be greatly missed. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 62 years, and the love of his life, Olyease McGuffee Wingate; five brothers, Jessie Wingate, Obe Wingate, Hershel Wingate, John D. Wingate and Clifford Wingate; four sisters, Daisy Haight, Annie Mae Norwood, Marie McGraw and Helen Myers and a special nephew, Tom Bill Myers. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Darlene and Robert M. Hughes of Magnolia; three grandchildren and their spouses, Robbey and Randy Greer of McComb, Jody and Debra Hughes of Gillsburg and Brandi and Paul Owens of Varnado, LA; five great-grandchildren, Caden and Reagan Wilson, Bailey and Davin Hughes and Griffin Owens and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to his devoted caregivers who are like family, Sharon Wall, Melissa McKenzie and Jessica Williams. The family also wishes to thank Amy West for her special care and compassion. Visitation is Tuesday at Sharkey Funeral Home, 1023 Old Brookhaven Road in Summit from 5PM until 8PM and Wednesday from 12noon until services at 2PM with Bro. Rick Kennedy and Bro.
