Winnie Fred “Wendy” Andrews Mullen, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away surrounded by family at her sister’s home in Amite, Louisiana on Sunday, August 9, 2026. 

Wendy was born in Lucedale, Mississippi, on January 2, 1941, to Fred Paul Andrews Sr. and Doris Havard Andrews, and was raised in McComb, Mississippi. The oldest of eleven children, she stepped naturally into the role of caretaker early in life. She was, in many ways, a mother to everyone. Her nurturing spirit remained a defining part of who she was throughout her life, extending not only to her own children and grandchildren, but also to generations of siblings, nieces, nephews, and extended family. 

Wendy spent much of her adult life in Watson, Louisiana, where she built a long and meaningful career as a business owner. For more than 60 years, she owned and operated Wendy’s Hair Place. Her salon became far more than a business—it was a place filled with conversation, laughter, friendship, and community. Her daughter, Kim, followed in her mother’s footsteps and eventually took over Wendy’s Hair Place, carrying on the legacy Wendy had built over decades. Through her work, Wendy touched countless lives and formed friendships that lasted for generations. For the past 20 years, she made her home in Summit, Mississippi. 

Wendy shared 63 years of marriage with her beloved husband, Maxie Leon Mullen, until his passing in September 2024. Together, they built a life centered on family and the people they loved most. Their home was always filled with children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, relatives, and friends, reflecting the importance family held throughout Wendy’s life.

Creative by nature, Wendy found joy in working with her hands. She loved to crochet and paint and became especially known for her cow paintings. Her handmade pieces remain treasured keepsakes for the family and lasting reminders of her creativity and personality.

 Wendy was preceded in death by her husband, Maxie Leon Mullen; her parents, Fred Paul Andrews Sr. and Doris Havard Andrews; her brothers, Sunny Andrews, Fred Paul Andrews Jr., Danny Andrews, and Michael Todd Andrews; and her sisters, Brenda K. Toepfer, Tina M. Andrews, and Eunice Pauline Andrews. 

She is survived by her children, Denise L. Keith, Kim M. Bankston (Randy), and Chris A. Mullen; her sister, Donna Andrews Frazier; her grandchildren, Ashlyne Mullen, Caila Lené, Adrienne Langlinais, Darien Campos, Shane Bankston, Maxim Bankston, Denver Bankston, Leona Jackson, and Maxie Mullen II; her great-grandchildren, Aden Shelton, Theija Excho, Billiey Excho, Emmett Bjorndahl, Ofelia Campos, Nash Bankston, Romy Blatman, and Penn Bankston; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

 In her final days, Wendy was lovingly cared for by family. Her family extends special thanks to Clarity Hospice, Hilda Angelo, Diane Carter, and especially her sister, Donna, who opened her home and provided devoted care toward the end of Wendy’s life. Their compassion and kindness brought comfort to Wendy and to all who loved her. 

Wendy’s life was defined by family, creativity, hard work, and a generous heart. Whether she cared for her siblings, welcoming clients into her salon, creating art with her hands, or simply making others feel loved, she left an imprint on everyone fortunate enough to know her. Her legacy lives on in the family she cherished, the community she served, and the countless lives she touched.
