William
Holmes
January 31, 1941 – February 6, 2024
William (Billy) E Holmes, 83 of Slidell, LA passed away Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at his residence in Slidell, LA. He was born January 31, 1941 in McComb, Mississippi.
Billy was a star athlete who played many sports to include basketball, baseball, and tennis. Basketball was his passion. After graduating from Louisiana College, Pineville, he went on to get his Master's Degree in guidance and education from Prairie View A&M University. Billy then went on to be a high school and college basketball coach for his entire career. Coaching took him to Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, and Georgia. His coaching career began at Lloyd Star, MS. Known by many as "Coach Holmes", he has touched many lives, and is loved and highly respected by those he coached, worked along side, and played sports with.
Billy was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was married to Linda, his high school sweetheart for 63 beautiful years. He loved and adored Linda with all of his heart and soul. He was the best dad his children could ever ask for. He showed his children what it means to be a good person and loving father.
Billy loved all things outdoors, especially fishing and being on the water. On most days, you could bet he was watching some sort of sporting event on TV, but mostly basketball.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Joe Wiley and Ricky Krustchinsky for their long-lasting friendship with Billy over the years. It meant the world to him.
