Willene (Miss
Tom) Cothern Rayborn O'Quin
April 3, 1914 – May 4, 2019
"Those who love deeply never grow old; they may die of old age, but they die young. An amazing lady 105 years "young'. Willene Cothern Rayborn O'Quin affectionately called Tom or Thomas, went to be with the Lord, Saturday, May 4, 2019.
She was born to loving parents, Willie Monroe Cothern and Etta Howell Cothern on April 3, 1914 in McComb, MS.
Following a bright and merry childhood, Willene graduated from Carter's Creek High School in 1934 where she excelled in sports, especially first team basketball. An avid reader, she regularly read her Bible and Sunday School lessons along with other interesting materials.
Willene enjoyed gardening, working with flowers, bird watching and watching sports on TV. A born homemaker, she enjoyed cooking and with a compassionate heart, reached out to share with those who were sick or in sorrow. Laughter filled her home and music filled her heart.
She was a longtime member of Enon Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and was a member of the Ruth Sunday School class.
She is preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, W. Percy Rayborn and Wilton O'Quin; two sons, Larry Hal Rayborn and Barney Joe Rayborn; a daughter-in-law, Sandra Faye Rayborn; four sisters and spouses, O'Dera and Corbett Lawrence, Pearl and Willard Alford, Nelle and Tommie Alexander and Grace Cothern.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Joyce C. Rayborn; two granddaughters, Stacy Rayborn and Wendi Rayborn; grandson, Larry Joe Rayborn and wife, Christina; great-granddaughters, Katie, Riley and Maggie and their mother, Becky Lynn Sistrunk; step-great grandchildren, Raven, Reece and Ross; her nephew, Jimmy Alexander and wife, Carolyn; her niece Gaye Smith and husband, Farris Smith and numerous other family and friends.
Visitation is Tuesday at Enon Baptist Church from 10AM until services at 11AM with Bro. David Hedden officiating. Burial will follow in Enon cemetery under the direction of Sharkey Funeral Home in Summit.
