Dr. Vernon Scott Evans, 58, passed from this life on Saturday, January 29, 2022, at his residence. He was born on May 9, 1963 in Baton Rouge, LA to Philip Evans Sr. and Barbara Sterling Evans.
Mr. Evans graduated in 1981 from South Pike High School. He continued his education at Southwest Mississippi Community College and Mississippi State University where he completed his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1988. He worked for the USDA, Food Safety and Inspection Service for over 26 years. He was a faithful member and Deacon of Thirty Eighth Avenue Baptist Church in Hattiesburg, MS for many years. He enjoyed spending time with his church family. He had a great affection for all animals, but his love for horses was especially evident. Although he had no children of his own, he spent lots of time joking and laughing with his nieces.
Preceding him in death was his infant brother, Gregory Sterling Evans.
Survivors are his parents, two brothers, Phil Evans Jr. (Anna) and Chuck Evans (Kay); four nieces, Sarah Rabalais (Brad), Leah Templeton (Michael), Stacey Evans, and Jennifer Crosby; one nephew, Henry Crosby; one great-nephew, Braydon Bordelon; and a host of family and friends.
Pallbearers are Mitch Foster, Jason Behlar, Craig Sterling, Jerry Rushing, Dr. Clint Evans, and Ricky Sterling.
Honorary pallbearers are Travis Foster, Joey Sterling, Hamp Sterling, Bryan Walker, Mike Sterling, and Billy Webb.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 3, 2022 beginning at 10:00 AM until time of service at 12:00 PM at South McComb Baptist Church with Dr. Kevin Shearer and Dr. David Millican officiating. A graveside service will follow at Hollywood Cemetery in McComb with Sharkey Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
The family requests memorials be made in his name to: Thirty-Eighth Avenue Baptist Church Senior Adult Ministry 419 N. 38 th Avenue, Hattiesburg, MS 39401.
