Ms. Tonya Lynn Coney, 49, of Fernwood, MS, passed from this life on Monday, January 2, 2023 at her residence, surrounded by her family.
Tonya was born in McComb, MS on September 21, 1973 and was the daughter of Billy Joe Coney and Linda Deer Coney. She was born with Down Syndrome, but that didn't stop her from living life to the fullest. She was such a happy person who never met a stranger. She loved people. Through her disability, she was active in so many things that she was proud of, such as, Wednesday Friends, Miracle League, Camp Sunshine, Arts Fair, Joy Bells, Special Olympics, even traveled to North Carolina for World Special Olympics Games, winning the gold, silver, and bronze medals in Gymnastics, and many other activities. Her family was so proud of her. She attended First Baptist McComb with her mom. She read the whole bible through and she was very proud of that. She loved to get dressed up and go to special events. She just loved life. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is preceded in death by her father.
She is survived by her mother, Linda Coney of Fernwood, MS; two brothers, Stephen Coney and Laura Turnage of Fernwood, MS, and Richard Coney and Cori of Summit, MS; two nieces, Megan Foster and Brandon, and Kaylin Cobb and Kyle; one nephew, Watts Coney; two great-nieces, Katie Foster, and Madelyn Cobb; her aunt and uncle, Louis and Sandra McKenzie, and numerous cousins and friends.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 5, 2023 from 12PM until time of service at 3PM at Sharkey Funeral Home in Summit, MS with Bro. Woody Rimes officiating. A burial will follow in the Hollywood Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Watts Coney, Kyle Cobb, Brandon Foster, Dewayne Dickerson, Mike McKenzie, and Richard Mabile.
