Terrell (Ted) Lee Smith, Sr., 67 of Slidell, LA, formerly of McComb, passed away Saturday, June 22, 2024, at Slidell Memorial Hospital in Slidell, La. He was born Thursday, September 6, 1956, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, to Lee L. and Mary Alice Wallace Smith.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 28, 2024, from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm at Sharkey Funeral Home in Summit, Mississippi. Funeral services will be held on Friday, 06/28/2024 at 3:00 pm at Sharkey Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Hollywood Cemetery in McComb, MS. Dr. David Millican and Bro J. R. McBeth will officiate. Sharkey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Ted graduated from Hattiesburg High School in 1974 where he was an avid baseball player. He was also a volunteer deputy with the Pike County Sheriff Department for 10 years.
Ted began his career in the funeral industry during his high school years working at Moore Funeral Home in Hattiesburg, MS. After high school he attended Commonwealth Mortuary School in Houston, TX where he became a licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer.
In 1985, Mr. Smith purchased Catchings Funeral Home in McComb and Johns Funeral Home in Collins, MS, where he was the owner until 1997, and remained as a consultant until 2003. During this time, Mr. Ted was a founding member of Magnolia Guaranty Life Insurance Company where he served as treasurer. As an avid Southern Miss supporter, he was a season ticket holder in football and baseball. GO EAGLES!!!
He was preceded in death by his father, Lee L. Smith and mother, Mary Alice Wallace Smith.
Survivors include his son, Terrell (Teddy) Smith, Jr. of Slidell, LA; sisters, Vicki Grubbs (Mack) and Lana Smith; nephew, Phillip Rogers all of Hattiesburg.
Pallbearers will be Phillip Carter, Logan Finch, John Dale Dumas, Blake Fenn, Adan Diaz, and Dan Parker.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Spell, Chuck McClain, Mike Holmes, and Keith Dean.
Special music will be performed by Kristen McBeth.
