Mrs. Sylvia Lynn Phillips Cothern, 70, of McComb, MS passed from this life on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at Courtyard Rehabilitation and Healthcare.
Mrs. Sylvia was born in McComb, MS, on December 31, 1950 and was the daughter of Preston and Marguerite Phillips. She was married to Butch Cothern for 47 years before his passing in 2017. She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church. She worked in the nurseries at First Baptist Church in Summit and Friendship Baptist Church in Summit for many years. She also cared for many children in her home, and in their homes through the years. She was the best Mama, Mamaw, Aunt, and friend that anyone could have. Her family was her greatest joy, often saying, "I am the happiest when we are all together".
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother, John Phillips; four sisters, Lois Newman, Edna Wells, Doris Silvio and Willene Guilbeau; four nephews, Wayne Newman, Paul Newman, Donnie Silvio and Carey Phillips, and one niece, Darla Silvio.
Those left to cherish her memory; one son, Dusty Cothern and Marilyn of Summit, MS; one daughter, Melanie Weekley and Jeremy of Summit, MS; one brother, Danny Wade Phillips and Marlene of Summit, MS; grandchildren, Virginia Morin and Dexter, Austin Surface, Tristan Cothern and Kaitlynn, Madilyn Cothern, Chase Williams and Brittany, and Cortney Williams; great-grandchildren, Millana and Jadalyn Morin, Parker and Kinley Williams, Preslie Surface, and Emmalynn and Creek Cothern; sister-in-law, Martha O'Quin; Brother-in-law, Earl Guilbeau, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Pallbearers are Dusty Cothern, Jeremy Weekley, Austin Surface, Tristan Cothern, Bubba Bigner, and Russell Phillips.
Honorary Pallbearers are Chris Weekley, Norman Jones, Jr., Billy Newman, Tommy Newman, and all of her other surviving nephews.
A Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 from 5PM until 8PM and continue on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 from 10AM until time of service at 11AM at Sharkey Funeral Home in Summit, MS, with Dr. David Millican officiating. A burial will follow in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Summit, MS.
The family would like to express special thanks to Dr. Luke Lampton and the staff at Magnolia Clinic, Chelsea Hill FNP, the staff at Beacham Hospital, the staff at Courtyard, and the staff at Compassus Hospice for their compassion and care shown for our family during her recent illness.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent in her name to Compassus Hospice, 119 West Presley Blvd, Suite D, McComb, MS 39648.
