Delos Shelton Dickerson, 82, of Summit, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2019 at Aston Court, surrounded by his family that loved him dearly. In the words of his great-granddaughter, he has gone to see Jesus.

Shelton was born August 13, 1936 to Wesley and Allie Johnston Dickerson. He grew up in Summit and graduated from Johnston Station High School. He and his loving wife, Lillie Caston enjoyed 61 years of marriage. Shelton spent his 42 year career working in the oil field for Shell Oil Company. He was a master mechanic and electrician. Described by his family as a self-taught genius, Shelton was a jack-of-all trades and a collector of knowledge. He loved a challenge, and there was never a problem too big or a project too tough for him. He always figured it out.

Shelton was a life-long member of Johnston Chapel United Methodist Church. He served the Lord and the church with his time, talents, gifts, and service. He served on numerous boards and committees and was Chairman of the Board of Trustees for more than ten years. In retirement, Shelton and Lillie spent countless hours working together on church projects and maintenance.

He was an avid hunter and enjoyed target shooting and discussing guns with family and friends. Shelton loved history and genealogy, an interest shared by his granddaughter, Amanda. They spent hours discussing his vast library of information on various families.
