Robert Thomas
Whittington
September 12, 1947 – March 26, 2022
Robert Thomas Whittington, 74, was welcomed into the arms of JESUS on March 26, 2022, at Camellia Estates. Born September 12, 1947 in McComb, MS, Robert was the son of the late Thomas Clinton (T.C.) Whittington, Jr. and Faye Marie Wayland.
An avid Ole Miss Rebel fan, Robert loved baseball and football and all things "hotty toddy." He was a professional nature photographer specializing in birds and lighthouses and he delighted in catching hummingbirds midflight. Robert was a grill master and travel king who loved a good cruise, a train ride, an excellent brisket.
Robert's generosity was immeasurable and he often gave away beautiful scenic photographs to friends and family. He supplied cameras to friends who expressed an interest in photography and offered to share his knowledge with those who desired to learn. He loved his country and was lovingly referred to as a Great American. A member of Calvary Chapel Jackson, Robert served as treasurer, secretary, and official coffee maker each Sunday morning.
Finally, he loved and took great pride in the McComb High School class of 1965. He loved his classmates, and they showed their love for him. He loved reunions and other gatherings where he could visit with his classmates, family, and friends.
In addition to his parents, Robert is predeceased by a dear cousin, Randy Bakenhus, and stepson, Jonathan Purvis. He is survived by his wife, Suzanne Robertson Whittington, brothers Ronnie and Ernest Whittington, children Lynn (J.P.) McInnis and Rick (Kathy) Whittington, Grandchildren Claire "Gotyoulast" (Johnathan) Freeman, Victoria (Marty) White, Jenner McInnis, Elisabeth McInnis, Emma Whittington, and great grandson, Percy White. He is further survived by step children Matthew (Stephanie) Purvis, Ryan (Linda) Purvis, and Lori Purvis, step grandchildren Sarah Purvis, Wes Purvis, Whitney Purvis, Reece Purvis, Steven Purvis, Taryan Purvis, Casey Purvis, Scarlett Purvis, Brittney Stephens, Sarah (Justin) Eliott, Celina (Mike) Lord, and A.J. Courtney, special cousins Linda Henthorn and Cherri Martin and a large extended family and host of nieces, nephews, and cousins whom he loved and cherished.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Monday, March 28 at New Heights Baptist Church in Summit, MS. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. until the service at 3:00 p.m. led by Dr. David Millican.
