Obituary

Richard (Rick) Lawrence Walther took his party to heaven on August 1st at 10:38pm. He was surrounded by the utmost love with his wife Cindy, daughter Katie and son Chris by his side.

He is also survived by his daughter Melanie, Brother Mike and Sister Sue and their families. His five beautiful grandchildren: Sophia, Indyra, Theodore, Oliver and Claire will miss their Honey. He also has five fur babies that are still eating his shoes. He collected incredible friends from all the many parts of his life, many of whom we consider family. He was born in New Orleans on November 4, 1952 to Fred and Millie Walther. He was the first graduating class of Brother Martin and finished his College Degree at St. Marys Dominican College before finding his passion for law enforcement. He started his career with Jefferson Parish Sheriffs Office before moving on to the Kenner Police Department, where he eventually retired in 2012. In his 30+ year run in law enforcement, he did everything from street patrol to detective, narcotics to community outreach, and was both a SWAT team member & FBI National Academy graduate. In retirement, he joined the City of Kenner Code Enforcement, which he would say is The only job where people hate you more than being a cop. His passion for his job grew from his desire to help people. His integrity brought a universal respect from all of those who have had the pleasure of working with him. He was charming, charismatic, and intelligent. And he sure could throw a great party. As cliché as it sounds he loved Cops (the tv show), Live PD, crime novels and guns. But above all else, he valued his family. It did not matter what we were doing as long as we did it together. Trips to Florida and California serve as a backdrop for some amazing memories; but truthfully, his Green Acres dream farm has been where our family has had some of the sweetest moments. His decision to have his grandkids call him Honey (before they were even born) shows what a teddy bear he had become. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to C.O.P.S, Concerns of Police Survivors at nationalcops.org.

Graveside services and interment will follow at Silver Springs Cemetery in Osyka, MS at 3:00 PM.
