Obituary

Perry Ray Ely, age 69, died peacefully at home on Saturday, September 4, 2021.

Perry was born on January 27, 1952 in Yazoo City, Mississippi to Jacquelyn Claire Perry and George Ray Ely. The family quickly moved to Metairie, Louisiana where he spent his childhood. He came to know the Lord and dedicated his life at Bridgedale Baptist Church. It was at church that he met the love of his life and best friend Terry Brown. They married and lived almost inseparable for over fifty years. Perry and Terry are currently members of the First Baptist Church of Summit. Perry served in the United States Air Force Reserve during the Vietnam War. He was a third generation railroad man working for the Illinois Central Railroad. His job started in Metairie and eventually brought him to Summit, Mississippi where he retired due to a disability. He was a skilled craftsman and could accomplish anything he set his mind to do. As an avid outdoorsman he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He spent many wonderful times at their fishing camp in Empire, Louisiana with family and friends.

Perry was extremely proud of his children Rebecca Jensen (Jason) and Steve Ely (Erin). The grandchildren Riley, Emma, and Jake were his joy.

He is survived by his brother Ross Ely (Mamae) and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by parents George Ray and "Jackie" Ely.

Visitation is from 5 P.M. to 7 P.M. Monday, September 13, 2021 at the Sharkey Funeral Chapel in Summit followed by a funeral service at 7 P.M. with Brother Gene Richards officiating.

Burial will be on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 at Concord Baptist Church Cemetery in Yazoo City at 11:00 in the morning.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to the McComb City Railroad Museum P.O. Box 7220 McComb, Mississippi 39649.
