Myrtle Rose Cutrer died peacefully, surrounded by family at the Blake at Township in Ridgeland, MS on May 18, 2024.
Rose was born in rural Jasper County, and grew up on the family farm in Bay Springs, MS. She graduated from Stringer High School, attended Mississippi State College for Women and graduated from the University of Mississippi Medical Center, subsequently spending 50 years as a medical technologist in leading Mississippi hospitals and labs. Rose spent a long life in service to others, always willing to lend a helping hand to friends and family members, all the while never expecting anything in return. She was a consummate giver and an exceptional and loving caretaker. Above all, she loved God and her family.
Rose's love of plants, flowers and all things to so with a charming and welcoming home led her to manage and own, with Hugh, the Sunbonnet, a store in Jackson. She further gave of her time as the Vice President of the Central Mississippi Parkinson's Support Group and in support of the churches she attended in Jackson, McComb, and Bay Springs. We will miss Rose dearly, but know she is well rewarded with her Lord. "I have fought the good fight, I ave finished my course, I have kept the faith." 2 Timothy 4:7
She was preceded in death by her spouses, Hugh Lowery Cutrer and Daniel Thomas; father, William Judson Wilson; mother, Ruby Myrick Wilson; brothers, Marion Wilson and John Wilson (Peggy); brother-in-law, Lowery Simmons.
Survivors include her sons, Fred Michael Cutrer (Lucinda), Kenneth Randall Cutrer (Kristina), Steven Brinkman Cutrer and Leslie Kyle Cutrer (Laurie); step-sons, Danny Thomas (Leigh) and William Thomas (Andy); step-daughters, Martha Smith (Leonard) and Linda Tucker; grandchildren, Casey Bell (Jodie), Lauren Cutrer, Lucinda Mae Cutrer, Caleb Cutrer, Kylee Grace Cutrer and Christopher Cutrer; brother, Charles Wilson (Marge); sisters, Cora Jo Blackwell (Charles), Jimmie Simmons and Becky Scarborough (Pete); 4 Great Grand Children; A Host of Nephews and Nieces; sister-in-law, Petra Wilson.
Pallbearers will be Michael Cutrer, Kenneth Cutrer, Brink Cutrer, Kyle Cutrer, Christopher Cutrer, Danny Thomas, and William Simmons.
The funeral service for Rose will be at 2 o' clock on May 20, 2024 at Catchings-Sharkey Funeral Home in Summit, MS. Reverend Paul McDonald will officiate. Interment will follow the service at Hollywood Cemetery in McComb, MS. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Union Baptist Church, 672 CR 9, Bay Springs, MS 39422 or to the Parkinson's Foundation, to improve care and advance research toward a cure, 200 SE 1st Street, Suite 800, Miami, FL 33131.
