Obituary

Mr. Marvin E. "Buck" Boyd, 91, of Summit, passed from this life on Sunday, August 7, 2022, at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center with his loving family by his side. He was born on July 24, 1931, in Pike County, MS, to Grover C. Boyd and Ethel Fleming Boyd.

Buck, as he was called all his life, was a lifelong citizen of Pike County. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Summit for over 60 years.

He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving four years from July 12, 1952 until July 12, 1956. In 1956 he returned home and went to work for the Illinois Central Railroad in McComb until he retired in 1986.

He loved gospel music and sang tenor for several groups including the well known Magnolia State Quartet. He also loved football and fishing.

Mr. Boyd was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of fifty one and a half years, the lovely Joan Peeples Boyd; one daughter, Sandy Kay Rials of Summit; four sisters, Eunice Jackson, Mary Lambert, Juanita Price, and Levell Travis; two brothers, Eugene Boyd and Milton Boyd; one son-in-law, Nick Rutter; and one granddaughter, Jodi Neal

Survivors include one son, Joe Edward "Butch" Boyd; one daughter Debra "Debbie" Rutter; five grandchildren, Erica Moak (Chad) of Bogue Chitto, Eric Boyd (Amanda) of Winnfield, LA, Bradley Rials (Jamie Beth) of Summit, Hollie Harriman (Charlie) of Huntsville, AL, and Chris Rutter (Whitney) of Summit; ten great grandchildren, and a host of family and friends.

Pallbearers are Chris Rutter, Bradley Rials, Eric Boyd, Chad Moak, Charlie Harriman, and Douglas Neal.

Honorary pallbearers are Joe Rials, Cade Moak, Hudson Harriman, and Russ Neal.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the SMRMC ICU and Hospice Compassus staff.

A visitation will be held Wednesday, August 10, 2022 beginning at 9AM until time of service at 11AM at Sharkey Funeral Home in Summit, MS. A graveside service will immediately follow at Hollywood Cemetery with Dr. Larry Leblanc officiating.

The family requests memorials be made in his name to a charitable organization of your choice.
