Dr. Martha Ferguson Goss, 100 years of age, of Slidell, LA, passed from this life on February 13, 2019 at Slidell Memorial Hospital in Slidell, LA. She was born in McComb, MS on December 23, 1918, to Albert E. and Mary Quin Ferguson. She was of the Methodist faith.

She worked at Kings Daughters Hospital in Brookhaven, MS as a lab tech from 1942 until 1945. She completed her under graduate work and first two years of Medical School at the University of Mississippi. She received her medical degree at the University of Tennessee. She worked in 1953 with Dr. Douglas Sprunt as a resident in pathology at the University of Tennessee. She then taught there as an associate professor.

She was the pathologist for three hospitals in Memphis, LeBonheur Childrens Hospital, West Tennessee TB Hospital and St Josephs Hospital. Leukemia research conducted by Dr. Goss and Dr. Anna Dean Dulaney of St. Jude Childrens Hospital in Memphis was published in the American Medical Association Journal of Medicine. After retirement, she continued to work at St. Charles General Hospital in New Orleans, LA as a pathologist.

She was a loving daughter, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She is preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by two sons, Harry Ireland and wife Susan of Dallas, TX and James Goss and wife Geraldine (Gigi) of Slidell, LA and one daughter Diane Welch of Jupiter, FL.

Visitation will be Sunday, February 17, 2019 at Sharkey Funeral Home in Summit, MS from 12:00 Noon until service at 1:00 P M. Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery in McComb following the service.

In lieu of flowers, family has requested that donations be sent to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital in Memphis, TN.
