Obituary

Marie Tolar Catchings, 89, of McComb, joined her beloved husband Bill in heaven on Dec. 28, 2016. Visitation is 9 a.m. Saturday at Catchings Funeral Home, 506 Maryland Ave. in McComb, until services there at 11. Pastor Charles Ray and Dr. David Millican will officiate. Private entombment will be held in Hollywood Cemetery. Mrs. Catchings was born Dec. 11, 1927, in Columbia, to William Austin Tolar and Sarah Leona Riley Tolar. She grew up in Tylertown at Walker's Bridge. She graduated from Tylertown High School and Southwest Mississippi Community College, where she met her husband-to-be. On March 31, 1949, they married and moved to Oxford for Billy to attend Ole Miss. They subsequently moved back to McComb and raised a family. Marie had a green thumb.?She loved flowers, gardening and growing everything. Often called upon to decorate tables for church events and many other functions, her flower arrangements were a sight to behold. She also was an excellent seamstress and made many of her own clothes and her daughter's, including all of her prom dresses and wedding dress. She made beautiful window dressings for every house she lived in. A natural leader, she was a member of many clubs and organizations in her community including the PTA, room mother, garden club, Women of the Church, ESA, and many more. Mrs. Catchings was preceded in death by her parents; a sister and brother-in-law, Thelma Tolar and Bob Fountain; a brother and sister-in-law, Thurman and Lorraine (Estess)?Tolar; a nephew, Dalton "Buddy"?Tolar; and her husband of 55 years, William R. "Billy"?Catchings. Survivors include her children and their spouses, William R. Catchings Jr. and Cyndy, Thomas D. Catchings and Rachel and Lisa A. Catchings and fiancé Kirk Haskins; six grandchildren, Ben, Hannah and Liam Catchings and his fianceé Rose Landry, Colin Catchings, Casey Terrell Guidry and husband Tommy and Bailey Terrell; one great-grandchild, Silas Gideon Guidry; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Catchings Brady Robinson; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Ben, Liam and Colin Catchings, Tommy Guidry; and two close family friends, Larry D. Terrell and Freddie Franklin. The family wishes to express thanks to St. Luke's Home Health, Hospice Compassus, StatCare Medical Clinics, Personal Homecare Services, special caregivers, Josie, Melissa, Justice, Nadine, Tabby, Audrey, Shannon and Bro. Millican. A special thanks goes to Dr. Andy Watson for all of his help in caring for Mrs. Catchings over the years.
