Mace joined the Air Force on April 17th, 1963, and retired on April 30th, 1983, at the Rank of M/SGT, having served for 20 years during times of war. He traveled extensively with the Air Force to many different bases to repair downed or broken aircraft. He also had Crypto Clearance. He served as a Tactical Aircraft Maintenance Technician during the Vietnam War and the Korean Conflict. He received the Air Force Commendation Medal, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, NCO Professional Military Education Ribbon, Air Force Longevity Service Ribbon with four devices, and Air Force Good Conduct Medal with five devices. He was stationed with 5th Fighters at Minot AFB, ND, and upon retirement from the military he went to work on a farm in North Dakota which he enjoyed, and then later went to school to drive semi-trucks cross country which he dearly loved and he did that for many years before having a heart attack and having to quit driving. His last years were spent in North Dakota and Mississippi enjoying gardening, reading books, and playing games on his tablet. When there were enough people around, he was always ready for a game of Pinochle. Mace was well known by his immediate Mississippi Family as "Uncle Man" and was always good for laughs and music at family gatherings in the old days. He would often break out with the words "To Canaan's Land I'm on my way, where the soul of Man never dies." He also loved to sing as he traveled across the country from one military base to another. There was nothing he loved more than gathering with his Mississippi family and gathering around at family reunions while singing all the old gospel songs that his family was famous for. He was loved and will be missed by so many! Rest in Peace Dad, Rest in Peace Uncle Man
