L. J. Garner, 70, of the Glading community in Amite County, passed away, Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center.
He was born July 30, 1948 in McComb, MS. He was the son of Henry Quin Garner, Sr. and Helen Edna Welch Garner.Mr. Garner was retired from Bell South where he served in a number of technical positions. He was a member of Glading Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He was very involved in spreading the word of God to friends and neighbors but also through his Nursing Home Ministry. He was also a lifetime member of the NRA.
He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Henry Quin Garner, Jr. and Melvin Louis Garner and a brother-in-law, Vernon Wilson.He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Gail Garner; two should-be sons, Josh Honea and Judd Honea; three should be daughters, Katrina Ward, Jodi Daniel and Jill Boyd; two sisters, Freddie G. Whittington of Magnolia and Fay G. Forrest and husband, Nat of Kissimmee, FL; twenty-five nieces and nephews and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Visitation is Thursday, December 13, 2018 at Glading Baptist Church, 3565 Lower Glading Road, Magnolia, MS 39652 from 5 PM until 8 PM and continues Friday, December 14, 2018 from 8 AM until services at 11 AM with Rev. Basil Wicker and Rev. Tom Burris officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of Sharkey Funeral Home in Summit.
The family wishes to thank Judd and Josh Honea for their dedication, love and hard work in building Mr. Garner's casket.Pallbearers are Marty Hilton, Mikey Ward, Chris Beaudreaux, Murry Reynolds, Jr., Hunter Bates. Dung Nguyen, Josh Honea and Judd Honea. Honorary pallbearers are Rusty Acampora, Jr., Billy Honea, Gerald Honea, Men of the Church, Bennie Beesley, Rivers Bates, Jeff Johnson, Don George, Vincent Burgo, Bud Alford and Phillip Rogers.In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be sent to Gideon International or a charity of choice.
