Mr. Leon Edwards, 75, of Smithdale, passed from this life on Monday, August 29, 2022, at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center with his loving family by his side. He was born on February 16, 1947 in Winnsboro, LA, to Odis Edwards and Edna Sproles Edwards.

Mr. Leon was a deacon and choir member at Mount Olive Baptist Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family and church family. He was well known for his love of yardwork and cooking. He was happiest when he was doing something for someone else. He retired from Entergy Corporation. In retirement, he especially enjoyed his time with Amelia Kate.  He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Preceding him in death were his parents; one sister, Annie Pearl Enlow; and two brothers, Marvin Edwards and Cecil Edwards.

Survivors are his wife of 55 years, Sarah Hartner Edwards; one brother, Leroy Edwards; two sisters, Lena Lanehart and Annette Taylor; two sons, Jay Edwards and wife Sarah Crankshaw-Edwards and Brian Edwards and wife Samantha Carraway Edwards; two granddaughters, Caroline Hope Fortenberry and Amelia Kate Edwards; and a host of family and friends.

Honorary pallbearers are Robert Hartner, Patrick Hartner, Jimmy Hartner, Dennis Hartner, Leroy Edwards, and Bobby Young.

A visitation will be held Thursday, September 1, 2022, beginning at 10AM until time of memorial service at 12PM at Sharkey Funeral Home in Summit, MS. A graveside service will immediately follow at Mount Olive Baptist Church Cemetery in Smithdale, MS, with Bro. Eric Moak officiating.
