Lavelle Spears Varnado, 88, of Osyka, MS, passed away Thursday, May 17, 2018, at her residence.She was born June 11, 1929, in Pike County, to L.A. Varnado, Sr. and Mary Branch Varnado.She loved to sew and make all of her childrens clothes while they were growing up. She loved her flowers, fishing and always enjoyed the time she was able to work on the dairy farm with her husband. She was a member of Line Creek Baptist Church and loved being a part of her Ruth Sunday School Class.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her first husband of 58 years, Talmage Spears; second husband, Gerald M. Varnado; an infant daughter, Becky Ruth Spears; one brother, Elvin Varnado, and two sisters, Bonnie Martin and Evon Henderson.
She is survived by one son, Stevie Spears and wife, Sandra of Magnolia; two daughters, Lucy Spears Palmer and husband, Dennis of Central, LA, and Estelle Schilling and husband, Aubrey, of Magnolia; one brother, L.A. Varnado, Jr., of Mesquite TX; two step-sons, Butch Varnado, of Osyka, and Gerry Varnado, of Denham Springs, LA; seven grandchildren, Ryan Schilling and wife, Lennie, of Hattiesburg, Rusty Schilling and wife, Melissa, of Metairie, LA, Shane Spears and wife, Mary Ann, of Lexington, TN, Kara S. Williams of Huntingdon,TN, Lesley Vance and husband, John, of Greenwell Springs, LA, Robin Sheridan and husband, Deric, of Pearl River,LA and Allison Spears, of Magnolia; ten great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Friday, May 18, 2018, at Line Creek Baptist Church, 78659 LA-1053, Kentwood, LA, 70444, from 5PM until 8PM, and will continue Saturday, May 19, 2018, from 10AM until services at 11AM with Bro. Max Landry officiating. Burial will take place at Line Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests the memorials be sent to Line Creek Baptist Church, 78659 LA-1053, Kentwood, LA, 70444.
