Julius Carlton "Butch" Cothern, 67, also better known to many as "Unc", passed away, Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center. He was born May 9, 1950 in McComb. He was the son of Arthur R. and Vondell Marbury Cothern. He was a member of Fernwood Baptist Church. He was a former member of the MS National Guard, a retired brick mason and after many years of service retired from Handy Hardware in Magnolia. He was a lover of all animals and was an avid fisherman and hunter. His favorite pastime was watching old westerns. He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother-in-law, John O'Quin and a nephew, Donnie Silvio. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Lynn Phillips Cothern of Summit; one son, Dusty Cothern of Summit; two daughters, Marilyn Williams of Summit and Melanie Weekley and husband, Jeremy of Summit; his sister, Martha O'Quin of Enon; grandchildren, Virginia Morin and husband, Dexter, Austin Surface and wife, Shelbie, Tristan Cothern, Madilyn Cothern, Chase Williams and wife, Brittany and Cortney Williams; great- grandchildren, Millana and Jadalyn Morin, Parker and Kinley Williams, Preslie Surface and Kynlie Sullivan and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation is Thursday at Sharkey Funeral Home, 1023 Old Brookhaven Road, Summit, MS 39666 from 5PM until 8PM and Friday from 1PM until services at 3PM with Timmy Walker and Dr. David Millican officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Pallbearers are Dusty Cothern, Tristan Cothern, Jeremy Weekley, Austin Surface, David "Foots" Williams, Russell Phillips and Bubba Bigner. Honorary pallbearers are J.P. Gill, James Morgan, Bobby Wallace, Mark Wells, Tommy Newman, Lane "Pnut" McDaniel.
