Obituary

Mr. Joseph R. "Joe" Moak, 80, passed from this life on Monday, November 6, 2017, at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg, MS. He was born on December 21, 1936, in Lincoln County, MS, to Horace Moak and Donie Roberts Moak. He served his country and retired from the US Navy. He was a Vietnam War veteran and a Radioman 1st Class, serving for twenty three years. He received the Good Conduct Medal with three bronze stars. He worked for 20 years and also retired as a Maintenance Supervisor for Mississippi State Parks. He enjoyed white perch fishing and rabbit hunting. He was a loving son, husband, brother, father, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Rosa C. Moak; sisters, Bobbie Schonhoff and Connie Donaho; and brothers, Rainey Moak, Riley Moak, Robert Moak, and Rodney Moak.. Survivors are his sons, Joey Moak and wife Deborah of McComb, MS, and Arthur Moak of Pelahatchie, MS; his daughters, Gloria Moak Hamilton and husband Gerry of Summit, MS, Paula Moak Moffit and husband Danny of Tylertown, MS, Linda Lee and husband Bill of Picayune, MS; his brother, Woody Moak and wife Betty of Baton Rouge; his sisters, Betty Jean Terrell and Brenda Dillon of Baton Rouge, LA; along with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family and friends. Visitation will be at Sharkey Funeral Home in Summit, MS, on Wednesday, November 8, 2017, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and will continue Thursday from 1:00 PM until the time of service at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow in the Johnston Chapel UMC Cemetery. Pallbearers are Mike Moak, Jason Moak, Justin Moak, Merle Moak,Jim-Hunter Hutson, and Will Busby.
