Johnny Walter
Horton
January 24, 1944 – June 12, 2020
Mr. Johnny Horton, 76, passed from this life on June 12, 2020, at his home in Magnolia, Mississippi. He was born on January 24, 1944, in Van Alstyne, Texas, to Mr. Johnny Walter Horton and Mrs. Betty Joe Jay Horton.
He lived in Texas until he met the love of his life, Dianne Lenoir Horton, while out playing billiards (which he also loved). They were married in 1979. Together, they built a beautiful home in Magnolia, MS, where they planted gardens full of daylilies, irises, four o'clocks, and muscadine vines. They never had children of their own, but loved their nieces and nephews; and took a young neighbor under their wing - describing him as "like a son" to them. Johnny was an avid collector of antiques, especially bottles and signs. He loved "going junking" with his wife and friends. He enjoyed fishing with his wife, his family, and his buddies. A highlight for many years was the week-long stay at Percy Quinn State Park with his life-long school friends from Texas. Johnny was a caring and dedicated husband, son, brother, uncle, and friend.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Johnny and Betty Joe Horton; beloved wife, Dianne Lenoir Horton; and sister Diane Lynn Echols.
Survivors are his sister, Peggy Horton Craig of Texas; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
A joint memorial service will be held for both Dianne and Johnny Horton on Saturday, June 27, 2020, at Sharkey Funeral Home in Summit, MS at 11:00 AM (1023 Old Brookhaven Road, Summit, MS). Burial to follow in the Magnolia City Cemetery in Magnolia, MS. Rev. Mike Morris will be officiating the services. Visitation will be on Saturday, June 27, 2020 from 10:00 AM until time of service at 11:00 AM. If you attend, please wear a mask and respect state social distancing guidelines to protect all who come to pay their respects to Dianne and Johnny.
