Reeves
March 30, 1925 – February 26, 2018
John Henry Reeves, Jr., 92, of Summit, passed away Monday, February 26, 2018, at his residence. He was born in Lincoln County on March 30, 1925, to John Henry Reeves, Sr. and Perla Bell Haver. He enlisted in the Marine Corp in 1943, and was in the third wave of Marines that landed on Iwo Jima. After WWII, he worked and retired as a conductor for Illinois Central Railroad. He was a member of Johnston Station Baptist Church, a member of the Masonic Lodge and was a father who loved his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Gerald Reeves; two sisters, Elizabeth Barfield and Sandra Richland and one grandson, Cory W. Hart.
He is survived by his wife of 75 years, Bessie Stockton Reeves; one son, Russell Reeves and wife, Patsy; three daughters, Martha Dillon and husband, James, Dorothy Duckworth and husband, Jim, and Judy Planas and husband, Oswald; two brothers, John Henry Reeves, III and wife, Sherry, and Robert Haver and wife, Dean; two sisters, Margie Foy and Marcelle Spillman; eight grandchildren, Kim Sisco, Ginger Lowhorn, Colette Sanford, Brooke Beard, Russ Reeves, Jeffery Reeves, Heather Hart and Lori Hart; nine great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Pallbearers are Kenneth Smith, Randy Haver, Jim Duckworth, Michael Hart, Chad Sanford and Craig Beard.
Visitation will be Tuesday, February 27, 2018, from 5PM until 8PM at Sharkey Funeral Home in Summit, and will continue Wednesday, February 28, 2018, from 10AM until services at 11AM with Rev. Glenn Bird and Rev. Trent Moak officiating. Burial will be at Montgomery Baptist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations can be made to the charity of your choice.
