Obituary

Mr. Jimmy "Jim" D. Freeman, 68, of Smithdale, MS, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 1, 2021 at his residence.

Mr. Jim was born in Silsbee, TX on May 24, 1953 and was the son of Walter Ancel Freeman and Patricia Ann Drake Freeman. He served our country in the United States Marines as a military police officer. Later, he worked for the Orange County Sherriff's Dept. out of Bridge City, TX. After moving to MS, he worked for MDOT for 17 years where he made many friends. He loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting and riding his motorcycle. He was an outgoing person and never met a stranger and also never at a loss for words. He enjoyed helping people and putting others before himself. He loved his family and cherished each moment spent with them. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is preceded in death by his parents and one infant granddaughter, Raeleen Marie Simmons.

He is survived by his loving, devoted wife of 34 years, Frances Thornton Freeman of Smithdale, MS; one son, David Smallwood and Kim of Hemphill, TX; four daughters, Donna Shute and Glen of Orange, TX, Colleen Simmons and Scott "Opie" of Orange, TX, Rachel Freeman of Bridge City, TX, and Celina Thornton and Scott of Murfreesboro, TN; two brothers, Aubrey Freeman and Elizabeth, and Allen Freeman; three sisters, Linda Hiroms and Larry, Barbara Alford and Sam, and Frances Freeman, and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family and friends.

A memorial visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 6, 2021 from 10AM until time of memorial service at 11AM at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Wallace Road SE, Meadville, MS 39653, with Bro. Marvin Howard officiating and Sharkey Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
