Jessie Lee Thornton Etheridge, 85, of McComb, passed away, Friday, September 22, 2017 at McComb Nursing and Rehab from Dementia related complications. Visitation will be Monday, September 25, 2017 at Sharkey Funeral Home, 1023 Old Brookhaven Road, Summit, MS 39666 from 5PM until 8PM and Tuesday, September 26, 2017 from 9AM until services at 10AM with Dr. David Millican and Rev. Travis Scruggs officiating. Interment will follow at Hollywood Cemetery. Ms. Jessie was born January 11, 1932 in Amite County to Edgar Thornton and Ottie Lee Thornton Simmons. She was married to Ernest Etheridge 43 years. Ms. Jessie retired from J.C. Penney and Town and Country where she was honored and excelled at her job. She most enjoyed working in her yard and said to have not one but two green thumbs. She was known to help anyone anyway she could. She loved sharing her cooking of a good chicken pie and sweet potato pie as well as other specialties. She loved doing for others. Ms. Jessie would settle in at night with her always busy hands sewing, quilting, and/or embroidery. She worshiped last at Central Baptist Church and was considered a prayer warrior for all-trusting Jesus Christ in all things. She is survived by her daughters; Peggy Stephenson of Summit and Pauline (Joe) Magee of Brandon; one grandson, Bill Stephenson; two granddaughters, Theresa (Jason) Runnels and Laura Lovell. Ms. Jessie is also survived by Dottie Etheridge, her special third' daughter; five great- grandchildren, Trisdon, Hunter, Braden Runnels and Ty, Taylor Lovell; her loving and special sister, Edna Etheridge of Columbia, Tn.; sister-in-law, Nadine Etheridge, McComb and brother-in-law, Julius (J.P.) Etheridge, Hendersonville, TN and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ernest; her son, James Lee; son-in-law, John Stephenson, Sr.; her brother, Alton Thornton; sisters, Myrtle, Helen, Audrey, Grace, and Glenda and step-father, Hansford Simmons; several sisters-in-law, brothers- in-law and 3 nephews ,Paul Etheridge, Roger Etheridge, and Mervin Scruggs. The family would like to thank McComb Nursing and Rehab and Hospice Compassus for the loving care provided our mother. Also, thank you all who were faithful in visiting Jessie Lee while she was in the nursing home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gideon's Bibles or charity of choice.
