Jerry Lamar Fortenberry, 91, of McComb, MS passed away on Wednesday, September 4, 2024 at Aston Court Assisted Living Facility.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2024 from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM at Navilla Baptist Church at 3130 Old Highway 24, McComb, MS. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 07, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Navilla Baptist Church in McComb, MS. Burial will follow in Navilla Baptist Church Cemetery in McComb, MS. Bro. Trent Bilbo will officiate. Sharkey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. 601-276-7475
Mr. Fortenberry was born October 3, 1932, the son of Eric "Pete" and Leona Bardwell Fortenberry. He was the owner and operator for 53 years of Fortenberry Agency Real Estate and Appraisers. Long active in community affairs, Fortenberry was involved with the Pike County Chamber of Commerce for more than two decades, a North Pike School District trustee for 10 years, and a leader at Navilla Baptist Church. He was a Mason, Shriner and Lions Club member; a boys and girls ball team sponsor; and a member of the elite Army Security Agency, where he was stationed in Badabling, Germany. He was well known for his softball skills, earning the title of Mississippi MVP as centerfield.
Mr. Fortenberry is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Dolores Cook Fortenberry, his sons, Mike Fortenberry and Mark Fortenberry, his brothers, Jimmy, Glen, and Charles Fortenberry and his sister, Betty Sue Kuyrkendall.
He is survived by his daughter, Donna (Austin) Tolar of Tylertown, his granddaughter, Erin (Ron) Fortenberry, his grandsons, Will (Jamie) Tolar and Jesse Fortenberry of McComb, his great-grandchildren, Jackson and Anna Claire Fortenberry, and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Aston Court Assisted Living, Compassus Hospice Care, and Little Bits Home Care for their support and care.
