April 22, 1930 – January 10, 2023
Mrs. Jean Watkins Schmidt, 92, of McComb, MS, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at her residence, surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Jean was born in Philadelphia, MS on April 22, 1930 and was the daughter of Cliff Watkins and Mrytle Gainey Watkins. She was an active member of West McComb Baptist Church in McComb, MS, where she and her husband taught young adults Sunday school class. She worked on the farm with her husband, Richard, many years and in later years, operated "Jean's Antiques". The most enjoyable part of the business for her was making long lasting friends. Her motto always was, "Thank you for calling". She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard E. Schmidt; one brother, Clifford Homer Watkins; one infant son, Eddie Schmidt, and one daughter, Vivian Schmidt Newton.
She is survived by three daughters, Betty Robinson and Joe of Tuscaloosa, AL, Gail Hearn and Nelson of McComb, MS, and Joan Stamps and Tim of McComb, MS; three sisters, Faye Gambrell, Ann Lawrence and Arthur, and Nell Green and Vern; eight grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.
Pallbearers will be Jonathan Robinson, Beau Massengale, Nicholas Bass, Bill Irwin, Landon Stamps, Logan Stamps and Rick Nobles.
A visitation will be held on Friday, January 13, 2023 from 9:30AM until time of service at 11AM at West McComb Baptist Church in McComb, MS with Bro. Vann Windom officiating and Sharkey Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. A burial will follow in the Hollywood Cemetery.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to her wonderful caregivers, Melissa Dyson, Kelly Lenoir, and Linda Johnson, as well as Hospice Compassus for their wonderful care.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial donations may be made in her name to West McComb Baptist Church building fund.
