Irene B. Travis, 89, of Felder Campground community, passed away on November 13, 2023, at King's Daughters Medical Center, Brookhaven, MS.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2023, 5 PM to 8 PM and Sunday, November 19, 2023, 1 PM until services at 2 PM. All visitation and funeral services are to be held at Felder United Methodist Church. Rev. Danny Speed will officiate. Burial will be in McEwen Cemetery. Sharkey Funeral Home, Summit, MS, is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Travis was born November 6, 1934 in Pike County to the late Merton and Eva Alexander Boyd. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. In 1955 she married James W. Travis, who served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and later was employed by Freeport McMoRan Sulphur Company, Port Sulphur, LA. They were blessed with their family of five children who were all born between January 1957 and June 1963.
She was a member of Felder United Methodist Church and was very active in various capacities over the years, namely as Youth Leader, Sunday School Teacher and was involved in numerous Outreach Ministries for the community. She was a woman of great faith, loved to cook and all the other responsibilities of taking care of her big family, along with gardening, writing God-inspired poems and stories that have been enjoyed by family over the years.
Preceding her in death were her husband, parents, brothers, Chris L. (C. L.) Boyd and Aubrey D. Boyd.
She is survived by three sons, Robbie M. Travis, Jayess, James W. Travis, (Cindy) Jayess, William M. Travis, (Rhonda) Magnolia, two daughters, Suzette T. Blanton, (Robert) Summit, Inette T. Sterling, (Hal) Lauderdale, and two sisters-in-law, Marie Boyd of Ellerslie, GA and Martha Travis of Mountain Home AR; grandchildren, Will Blanton, Kayce Sclafani (Jeff), Robin Hixson, Lindsay Sterling Graves (Shane), Emily Sterling, Haley Sterling, Matt Coffey (Cacey), Shelby Travis, Matt Travis (Carolyn), Jesse Travis (Teryn), and Willie Dunbar (Lauren); 16 great-grandchildren, Kailin Blanton, Ashlyn Blanton, Braden Blanton, Tyler Sclafani, Jordyn Sclafani, Kristyn Sclafani, Lauryn Sclafani, JR Herring, Ryder Hixson, Zac Hixson, Ryker Clinton, Lillie Grace Coffey, Leighton Coffey, Kaylann Beeson, Kelcey Claire Beeson, Brad Beeson, Amelia Travis, Ari Dunbar, Eden Dunbar, with 1 on the way, Rusty James Travis; 1 great-great grandchild, J. W. Newman and numerous nephews and nieces.
Pallbearers are Will Blanton, Matt Travis, Willie Dunbar, Matt Coffey, Tyler Sclafani, Braden Blanton, and Jeff Sclafani.
