Grady Lelon
Reed
June 13, 1924 – January 3, 2022
Grady Lelon Reed was born in Maben, MS, on Friday, June 13, 1924, to Charlie Dyle Reed and Ila Fulgham Reed. In 1950 he married Geraldine Johnston in Summit, MS. They had three children – Susan, David, and Raymonde. Grady worked for A & P in McComb, MS. as a part time clerk, and was transferred and promoted to Jackson, Vicksburg, Gulfport, and New Orleans. When he retired from the company in 1981, he was an Area Real Estate Manager. He then went to work for Arroya Sales in River Ridge, LA.
Mr. Reed accompanied his family to a church in every place they lived. He attended church regularly, was part of the Methodist Men's group, served on various boards and committees, and sang in the choir until his late eighties. In 2000 the Reeds moved back to Summit. When he retired in late 2004, he loved cutting his grass, sitting on the front porch swing waving to family and friends passing by, and taking a more active role in activities at Johnston Chapel UMC. In 2013 the couple moved to Richardson, TX to live with their daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Ron. He was a member of Sachse First UMC, but still called JCUMC his home church. Mr. Reed was loved by his family and friends because of his kind words, keen sense of humor, sincere encouragement, loyalty, wisdom, and excellent memory. His love for family and friends was special, sincere, and unlimited. Relationships were treasured, making him a favorite with all ages. He was extremely proud of his granddaughter, Amanda, and great-grandson, Parker.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one sister, Edna Reed Fulgham; and daughter, Raymonde Reed.
Survivors include his daughter and husband, Susan and Ron Harris of Richardson, TX; son David Reed of New Orleans, LA; granddaughter and husband, Amanda and Mike Morgan and, great grandson, Parker Reed Morgan of Salisbury, NC. He is also survived by siblings Doyle Reed, Elaine Reed Reeves, and Elner Reed Sisk, and in-laws, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In lieu of flowers the family request that contributions be made to Johnston Chapel UMC, 2093 Chapel Drive, Summit, MS 39666; or Sachse FUMC 1520 Blackburn Road, Sachse, Tx 75048; or a charity of your choice.
A visitation will be held Thursday January 6, 2022, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM and will continue Friday January 7, 2022, from 10:00 AM until time of service at 11:00 AM at Johnston Chapel UMC in Summit, MS.
