Glenda Lee
Sharkey
February 24, 1955 – January 11, 2024
Glenda Lee Sharkey, 68 of Tylertown, passed away Thursday, January 11, 2024 at her residence. She was born Thursday, February 24, 1955 in McComb.
Visitation will be held on Monday, January 15, 2024 from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm at Sharkey Funeral Home in Summit. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 15, 2024 at 2:00 pm at Sharkey Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Walker Anderson Cemetery in Pricedale. Dr. David Millican and Rev. Rick Kennedy will officiate the services.
Mrs. Glenda was well known in this town and community and was loved by so many people. She attended South McComb Baptist Church. She retired from Gillis Drug store after 20 years of employment. Afterwards, she worked as a secretary for Lem Mitchell in Magnolia (Lem and Alice Mitchell), and she became good friends with them both. She fully retired in 2023. She was an outdoorsy type of lady. If you called her and asked where she was, her answer would've most likely been "Outside". That was where she spent most of her time alone and where she felt close to God. She would spend time at the river, looking for rocks and arrowheads, or fishing with her grandbabies (although she caught more limbs than fish). Apart from doing that, she would also find happiness with her husband of 32 years, until his passing, Mr. Gene Sharkey. She would go to the LSU games with him and be right by his side, along with their family and friends. She loved her family with everything in her and loved to be with them doing whatever they did…except for cooking! She was banned from the kitchen, but she sure loved everyone else's cooking. In her final days, she spent her time outside on the front porch, enjoying life with her two dogs, Jake and Blue, and her cat, Junkyard. We will all miss the person that she was. Until we meet again, take your rest, Mrs. Glenda Sharkey.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Austin Sharkey; her father, Wiley Britton Young; her mother, Edna Mae Simmons Young; one brother, Richard Young, one sister, Judy Wilson and nephew Ron Young.
Survivors include her Son, Richard Casey Bowlin (Christina), of Magnolia; two Daughters, Rebecca Jo Williams (Russ), of Smithdale, and Katie Fry (Allen), of McComb; seven Grandchildren, Grant Williams, Aubrey Williams, Meredith Bowlin, Colton Bowlin, Skyler Fry, Robert Floyd, and John Floyd; three Brothers, Robert Young (Paula), James Young (Jackie), and David Young (D.G.); three Sisters, Loretta Stoddard (Bud), Francis Brister, and Shirley Seale (Larry); one Brother-in-law, Doug Wilson; and one Adopted Son, Taylor Lea.
Pallbearers will be Allen Fry, Russ Williams, Grant Williams, Taylor Lea, Rorey Whitehead, and Rick Brister. Honorary pallbearers will be Colton Bowlin, Robert Floyd, John Floyd, Danny Sharkey, Rick Brister, Ruston Brister, and Tommy Brister.
