Georgie Elaine
Boyd
August 30, 1940 – September 1, 2024
With her daughters by her side, Georgie Elaine Boyd transitioned to her Heavenly home on Sunday, September 1, 2024, at the age of 84. Born on August 30, 1940, in Monticello, Mississippi, Elaine was a longtime resident of McComb where she made a loving home for her family.
Elaine married Learno Boyd on September 21, 1956, and together they had six children. Elaine's nest never emptied, as she took an active role in helping raise her many grandchildren, and friends in need had a place to stay under her roof. Her move to a senior care facility didn't dim her maternal light one bit; she became a motherly figure to all her caregivers. She made everyone feel welcome and loved.
There was always something good cooking in Elaine's kitchen, usually a dish requested by a family member, favorites including chocolate gravy and biscuits, sugar toast with homemade hot chocolate, chicken and rice soup, and her homemade French fries, a staple at every gathering.
There was never a shortage of family gatherings either, with Elaine celebrating every holiday to the fullest – playing Mrs. Claus at Christmas, preparing a feast for Thanksgiving, decorating her yard for Halloween and even hosting annual Presidents Day dinners complete with recitations of presidential trivia.
Elaine had a great love for jewelry and surrounded herself with collections of dolls, antiques, and china, and she could often be heard listening to or singing Johnny Cash tunes. She was a fantastic storyteller, enthralling her grandchildren with fairy tales and ghost stories. But her favorite stories to tell were those about her children, and she was happiest when surrounded by her family.
A devoutly faithful Christian, Elaine was a member of Summit Church of Christ where she taught Sunday school. She always said the sweetest day would be when she meets Jesus, the sweetest name she ever heard.
Elaine was preceded in death by her father, James Carr, and mother, Arline Brister; husband, Learno Boyd; and brothers, James, Turner, JD and Leon Carr, and Jack Reid.
She is survived by her daughters, Rhonda Alexander (Glen), Sandy Golmon (Tommy), Missy Lester (Warren), Armecy Nicole Cutrer (Eric) and Karla Reeves; son, Dane Mitchell Boyd (Lisa); special niece Mandy Carr-Dykes; sons-in-law Bob Raborn and Brian Reeves; 15 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family extends special thanks to Elaine's nurses at Compassus Hospice Services, the staff at Billdora Senior Care and two special caregivers, Lakeisha Ginn and Mia Holmes.
Mama, Nanny, Granny, we love you a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck.
Family and friends are invited to the visitation Wednesday, September 4, from 5-9 p.m. and the funeral service Thursday, September 5, at 10 a.m. at Catchings-Sharkey Funeral Home, with burial following at Greer Cemetery in Walthall County. Glen Alexander and Randy Spring will officiate. Pallbearers are Elaine's grandsons Andrew Alexander, Brad Golmon, Connor Raborn, Clay Raborn, Michael Cutrer and Grayson Reeves. Honorary pallbearers are Ben Alexander, Nathan Alexander, Christopher Jackson, Brian Reeves, Warren Lester, Jathan Thomas and Jaye Thomas.
