Obituary

Mrs. Georgia Mae Johnson Simmons, 91, of McComb, MS, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 12, 2023 at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center in McComb, MS, surrounded by her family.

Mrs. Georgia was born in Pike County, MS on January 19, 1931 and was the daughter of George Johnson and Alice Lambert Johnson. She was a lifelong member of Pine Grove Pentecostal Church. She was actually part of the first founding members of the church. In her earlier years, she sang at church with her sisters and her cousins. She loved her life living for the Lord. When she and her husband, William Simmons, married in 1950, they moved to Gretna, LA, where they lived for almost 40 years before moving back to McComb. She became a nurse in 1966 and worked for many years in the labor and delivery, nursery department, as well as private duty. She was a cat fanatic, especially her Siamese cats, Sugar and Spice. She loved life and loved to laugh. Anyone she came in contact with, she inspired them with stories of the past, growing up on a farm in Pike County, Mississippi. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 57 years, William I. Simmons, Jr.; one brother, Johnny B. Johnson, and one son, William I. Simmons, III.

She is survived by her only daughter, Debra S. Davis and Michael of Summit, MS; one brother, Rev. R.H. Johnson and Sister Nancy Johnson of Summit, MS; two sisters, Pauline Roberts of McComb, MS, and Kathryn Ritchey of Denham Springs, LA; three grandchildren, Angela D. Perry and Vester, Michael G. Davis, Jr, and Daniel I. Simmons and Rebecca Mannino, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, January 15, 2023 from 11AM until time of service at 2PM at Pine Grove Pentecostal Church in Summit, MS with Pastor R.H. Johnson, Rev. Elliot Rutland, Rev. J.H. Johnson, Rev. Scott Wilson, Rev. Joel  Ritchey, Rev. Drew Ritchey, and Rev. Colby White officiating and Sharkey Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. A burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Michael G. Davis, Jr. Daniel I. Simmons, Vester Perry, Carlin Ritchey, Caleb Ritchey, and Stephen Pepper.
