Edwina Doris Strickland Rhodus, 95 of the Bluff Springs community, passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2019 at Camellia Estates in McComb following a 3 years illness.
She was born November 12, 1923 in Pike County. She was the daughter of Willie Clarence & Essie Mae Simmons Strickland
She was a Christian and a lifelong active member of Bluff Springs Baptist Church until she fell ill in 2016.
She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, homemaker, and spent the majority of her adult life raising a family, taking care of a home and gardening. She worked at Croft Metals for 15 years. In her later years when she had more free time she enjoyed her passion of growing beautiful flowers, especially roses and daylilies.
Preceded in death by her parents, husband of 54 years, Leo James Rhodus who passed away in 1995; 3 sisters, Elsie Hughes & husband King Hughes; Margie Hughes & husband, Ernest Hughes; Myrtle Lea & husband David Lea; 1 brother, Avery Strickland & wife Laura; 1 son, Edward Leo Rhodus & wife Brenda; 1 son-in-law, William "Bill" McKissick; and 1 great grandchild, William Robert Wells.
She is survived by 1 son, Jerry Rhodus and wife, Charlotte of Magnolia, MS; 4 daughters, Paulette Prescott and husband, Ramon of Magnolia, MS; Evelyn Wells and husband, Robert of Brandon, MS; Rita McKissick, of Saltillo, MS and Sandra Spears & husband Stevie Magnolia, MS; ten grandchildren, John Rhodus & wife Debra of Andalusia, AL, Diana Boyd of Hattiesburg, MS, Denise Cousins & husband, Bill of Montgomery, AL, Sharyl Drake, Madison, MS, Kenneth Wells & wife, Keicia of Brandon, MS, James Rhodus & wife Linda, Magnolia, MS; Christopher McKissick & wife Kacey, Saltillo, MS; Jennifer Kidd & husband Craig of Nashville, TN, Robin Sheridan and husband, Deric of Pearl River, LA and Allison Rawls & husband, Chris of Purvis, MS; numerous great -grandchildren, step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Visitation is Friday at Sharkey Funeral Home, 1023 Old Brookhaven Road, Summit, MS 39666 from 9AM until services at 11AM with Dr. Dave Hartson officiating. Burial will follow in the Rhodus Family cemetery.
