Obituary

Dwight Elwin Stockton, 75, of McComb, Mississippi, passed away October 17, 2024, at his home in the Friendship Community. Visitation is 6:00pm – 8:00pm Monday, October 21, 2024, at Johnston Chapel United Methodist Church, 2093 Chapel Dr. Summit, with visitation from 10:00am - 11:00am with funeral services following on Tuesday, October 22, 2024. Bro. Dwayne Scoggins will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Sharkey Funeral Home of Summit in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Stockton was born January 22, 1949, the son of Robert R. Stockton and Erma Stockton. Dwight Stockton graduated from McComb High School in 1967 where he played basketball and baseball. For 30 years he was known as Coach Stockton for the North Pike School District. He began the sports programs for girls' basketball, softball, baseball and soccer where he was Head Coach for many years. Coach Stockton spearheaded the first ever Fellowship of Christian Athletes for North Pike High School where it is still active today. He was Head Coach for several summer softball leagues, which include: Pike Mobile Movers, with Assistant Coach Clinton Moak, McComb Welding with Assistant Coach Danny Easley and Clinton Moak, and Southern Images, with Assistant Coach Danny Easley. After retiring from the North Pike School District he became Head Coach for the Parklane Academy softball team. During his 10 year stint at Parklane he won 6 State Championships in slow-pitch and fast-pitch combined; alongside Assistant Coach Chris Weekly. He also coached soccer for several years.

Mr. Stockton was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Erma Stockton, and in-laws Alfred Pete & Tommie Lou Wilkinson.

He is survived by his wife, Jennie Lou Stockton of McComb; sons, Benji Stockton and Brett Stockton (Donna); son-in-law, Michael Hand; granddaughters, MacKenzie Stockton and MacKayla Stockton.
