Durwood M. Gordon, 74, of Magnolia passed away Friday, June 29, 2018 at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center. Mr. Gordon was born July 25, 1943 in Vicksburg, MS. He was the son of the late Clyde B. and Maggie Stewart Gordon.He was a member of Rising Glory Lodge #215 F&AM in Osyka and a member of OES Mayflower Chapter #148. He served as a deacon and a Sunday School teacher at Central Baptist Church in McComb and as Sunday School director at Gillsburg Baptist Church. He was a dairy farmer and at one time, was the youngest dairy farmer in Amite County. He retired from L.P. Gas as a sales representative with 47 years of service and worked at Blossman, Herring and Farrell Gas Companies. After retirement, Mr. Gordon began working at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center as a security guard. Even though he believed in hard work, Mr. Gordon loved spending his spare time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and thought being called "Paw Paw" was the greatest title he could have.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Bessie Elaine Wilson Gordon of Magnolia, two sons, Randy Gordon of Magnolia and Christopher "Kit" Gordon of Gillsburg; four grandchildren, Glen Gordon, Stewart Gordon, Josh Gordon and Jared Gordon and seven great-grandchildren, Caleb Gordon, Easton Gordon, Savannah Gordon, Emerson Kate Gordon, Braylie Gordon, Ella Gordon and Carter Gordon.
Visitation is Monday at Sharkey Funeral Home, 1023 Old Brookhaven Road, Summit, MS 39666 from 6PM until 9PM and Tuesday from 9AM until services at 11AM with Dr. David Millican officiating. Burial will be in Gillsburg Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are Jared Gordon, Glen Gordon, Stewart Gordon, Josh Gordon, Brandon Johnson, and Caleb Gordon. Honorary pallbearers are Bobby Boyd, Jerry Bates, Michael Walton, Jerry Van, Lloyd Young, Willie Patterson, Ken Pounds, Mike Reynolds, Tommy Dupriest, Loronzo Chester, Wilford Lowe, Joe Weatherspoon, Fred Reese, Mose Dillon, and Doug Lawrence.
