Obituary

D.L. Purl passed peacefully from this life on January 27, 2019 at the age of 96. D.L. was born to Joe & Bessie Simmons Purl in 1922 in Magnolia Mississippi.

On a Friday evening in March 1947, he eloped with Edna Purl, the prettiest girl he had ever laid eyes on. They were married 62 years at the time of Edna's death. In 1942 he began his service in the U S Army and landed at Normandy, France 5 months after D-Day. He served until the end  of WWII in 1945. On his return he went to work for the railroad until his retirement in 1985.

He was a do-it-yourself-projects kind of guy, always working on a project or helping someone with something. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He loved to write and left behind a collection of both serious and funny writings. He also wrote a book for his family about growing up during the 1930's Great Depression. He loved his church and friends and was always reminding us of something pertinent like "forgiveness" or "take the plank out of your own eye".

He is survived by one son and daughter-in-aw, Wayne & Cherie, one daughter, Dianne Purl, special friends Margo Shoemaker, Mike & Nury Roquevert and Dolores DeMarco, 3 grandchildren, Shane (Lea), Sean (Anne), and Lisa (Roman), 2 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Edna Honea Purl, his son Larry and his son Michael.

He was a longtime member of the New Orleans Bible Church in Metairie, LA.
