Mrs. Vernon Dean Crittenden, 93, of McComb, Mississippi, passed from this life surrounded by family on Monday, January 9, 2023 in Huntsville, Alabama. She was born in McComb on August 5, 1929 to Vernon Harp Vinson and Doris Jane Thornhill Vinson Gronstrom.

Mrs. Crittenden was married on November 10, 1946, to the love of her life, Milton Eugene Crittenden, whom she missed terribly since his passing in 1996. She dedicated her life to caring for and nurturing her family and was a loving and industrious mother to their two children, Susan Crittenden Spalla and John Milton Crittenden.

She was kind, particular, witty and a resourceful problem solver who enjoyed sewing, baking, and traveling.  She will be remembered for how much she loved her family, delighted in bluebirds and hummingbirds, tended to her lush blueberry bushes, utilized post-it notes and nylon string, and her everlasting craving for pecan pie.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, and her brother, Fred Vinson. She is survived and forever cherished by her two children, Susan and Dr. Frank Spalla, and John Milton Crittenden, five grandchildren: Allison Stowers Riddle, Alicia and Sergeant First Class Douglas Castellano, Amanda Nicole Humphrey, Kelsey "Kittie" Ray Crittenden and Logan Zane Crittenden; seven great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to her caregivers, Danyetta Harden, Misty Leonard, and Abbi Riddle.

A visitation will be held Saturday, January 14, at Sharkey Funeral Home beginning at 1PM until 2PM followed by graveside service at 2:30PM at Hollywood Cemetery with Dr. David Millican officiating. Pallbearers are Logan Crittenden, Korey Jacobs, and Rob Donnelly.
