February 9, 1922 – January 20, 2022
Mr. Alton McGuffee, 92, went to be with his Lord on Thursday January 20, 2022, at Post Acute Medical in Hammond, LA. He was born on February 9, 1929 in Sartinville, MS, to AH McGuffee and Beatrice Boone McGuffee.
Mr. Alton was an active member at New Heights Baptist Church. He had a fulfilling career for 40 years with Bellsouth. He enjoyed spending time in the outdoors especially deer hunting. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. He had a special bond with his dog, Harley. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Preceding him in death were his parents; two sisters, Lyndell Verdia and Olyease Wingate; two brothers, Maxwell McGuffee and Vernon McGuffee; and one grandchild, Brandy Floyd.
Survivors are his wife of 50 years, Carolyn McGuffee; one daughter, Renee Hornbeak (Carl); three sons, Mike McGuffee, David McGuffe, and Greg McGuffee (Tracy); four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.
Pallbearers are Manuel Verdia, Danny Puffer, Rev. Cletus Moak, Pat Kelly, Carl Fuller, and Hoyt Beard.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at 9:00 AM at New Heights Baptist Church in Summit, MS, until time of service at 10:00 AM. A graveside service will follow at Pike Memorial Gardens with Rev. Rick Kennedy and Rev. Randy Burdeaux officiating. Sharkey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
