Dane Mitchell
Boyd
July 12, 1960 – September 3, 2024
Dane Mitchell Boyd's work was done on this earth on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at the age of 64. He passed away at his home in McComb with his wife and son diligently watching over him as they had for weeks.
Mitchell was born on July 12, 1960, in Monticello, Mississippi, to father, Learno Boyd, and mother, Elaine Carr Boyd. Their second oldest child, but only son together, Mitchell was the "baby brother" of all five of his sisters, even the four younger ones. He was "spoilt" by all, including his wife's sisters who said he was their only brother, too.
He met the love of his life, Lisa, in 1999. Introduced to one another by Mitchell's sister, Nicole, their courtship, which lasted half a year, led to nearly 25 years of marriage.
Mitchell's fatherly instinct wasn't bound by blood. He loved his stepchildren as if they were his own, including Lisa's son, Christopher, and his stepdaughter, Christy (tenderly called "Punkin"), both of whom were immediately welcomed into his family.
Family get-togethers were the most important tradition for him, especially cheesy movie nights and watching "It's a Wonderful Life" at Christmas with his family and a cup of his mama's homemade hot cocoa.
Motorcycles and antique cars were his hobbies. His spare time was spent roaring up the road on his Honda 1100 with one of his siblings, nephews or nieces in tow, and he could spot an old vehicle anywhere.
Early mornings were spent at his mama's house, next door to his own, where she'd make sugar toast and hot cocoa, his favorite breakfast from her kitchen. Her failing health altered that tradition but not his morning visits. He made coffee for her instead, and their strong bond continued unbroken as he took on the role of caregiver.
Mitchell graduated from North Pike High School in 1978 and obtained his Bachelor of Science in theology from Memphis School of Preaching in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1986. Mitchell loved to spread the Word of God and was devoted to his spiritual work. He was a longtime member of and part-time preacher at Summit Church of Christ.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Learno and Elaine Boyd.
Survivors are his wife, Lisa Boyd; daughter, Christy Deville (Cody); son, Christopher Jackson; sisters, Rhonda Alexander (Glen), Sandi Golmon (Tommy), Missy Lester (Warren), Armecy Nicole Cutrer (Eric), Karla Reeves; sisters-in-law, Brenda Harvey, Connie Chisholm, Barbara Chisholm; and special cousin, Mandy Carr-Dykes (Chris).
A visitation will be held at Sharkey Funeral Home on Saturday, September 7, 2024, from 9 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. with graveside services to follow at Greer Cemetery in Walthall County. Bro. Randy Spring and Bro. Glen Alexander will officiate. Pallbearers are Grayson Reeves, Ben Alexander, Nathan Alexander, Clay Raborn, Michael Cutrer and Brian Reeves. Honorary pallbearers are Connor Raborn, Andrew Alexander, Jaye Thomas, Jathan Thomas and Warren Lester.
