Corbett Everett
Craft
December 3, 1940 – June 27, 2022
On June 27, 2022 Corbett Everett 'CE' Craft traveled peacefully to his happy hunting grounds.
He was born on December 3, 1940 in Bay St. Louis, MS.
In 1958, CE graduated from Petal High School where he played baseball and football and
studied a little.
He graduated from USM (where his father and son also graduated) with a BS and MS in Biology
and eventually AAA Certification in School Administration.
He was preceded in death by his parents Corbett Ellis Craft, who worked 37 ½ years in public
education teaching, coaching and as an administrator (he formed and coached Petal High
School's first football team), and Flora Mae Merritt Craft, a registered nurse for 35 years.
Mr. Craft worked for McComb Publish Schools for forty years. He spent nine years as a Biology
Instructor, two as assistant baseball coach (with the 1964 team going undefeated during the
regular season), five years as Secondary Instruction Supervisor for grades 8-12, ten years as
Denman Junior High School Principal, and the last eighteen years as the District's first
Curriculum Director. He retired in 2004 after 42 years and served as a half time consultant for
five years after that.
Teaching Biology was his passion and he continued teaching one class for twelve years while
working as an administrator. He was especially pleased when many former students would tell
him they used their high school notes in college. He was chosen as Mississippi Biology of the
year and selected Star Teacher during his career. His community activities included coaching for
several years in the Rotary Club and he was a member of Centenary Methodist Church.
Mr. Craft was very active in his profession on the state level as well. He served eight years on
the Commission on School Accreditation, as an evaluator for the State Department of Education
and US Department of Education, and as president of the Mississippi Association of Supervision
and Curriculum Development and the Mississippi Staff Development Council.
He was an avid outdoorsman with a passion for deer hunting. He also enjoyed fishing,
gardening, and collecting antique fishing lures and paraphernalia, especially Lucky 13's.
Survivors include his wife of sixty years, Minnie Rae Craft and son, Brian Everett Craft, of whom he was very
proud, and family, Darlin' Neal and her daughter Ivy Blue Neal, two sisters-in-law, Linda Walley
and Cecilia Harrison of Richton, two brothers-in-law, Alton and Singleton Harvison of Petal, a
few remaining first cousins, a host of second and third cousins and cousins-in-law, his adopted
family, the Ray Kaiser family of New Orleans, and a few very special friends who know who they
are.
Mr. Craft donated his body to the University of Mississippi Medical Center Crematory
Department for research.
A memorial party may be scheduled later.
