Obituary

Mr. Claude Carter Gholson, Sr., 78, of Summit, MS, passed from this life on

Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at King's Daughters Medical Center in Brookhaven, MS.

He was born in Greenwood, MS, to Carter L. Gholson and Elsie Davis Gholson.

He was a member of New Heights Baptist Church. Prior to moving to Summit, MS,

he was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Terry, MS where he served as

a deacon and enjoyed singing solos with the choir. He retired from the Jackson

Police Department receiving many awards and accolades for his service. He was

especially proud of having participated in JPD's Officer Friendly program. After

retirement he purchased a dry cleaning and laundry business that he ran for 10

years. His hobbies included; golf, drag racing, traveling the world, and working on

the farm with his equipment. Due to declining health, he was unable to enjoy

many activities that he could in his younger years. You could often find him at

home in his recliner with his dog Allie or on the back porch drinking coffee and

enjoying nature. He enjoyed any and all time spent with his family.

Preceding him in death were his parents and brother, Gordon DeMent.

Survivors are his wife of 56 years, Bobbie Allen Gholson; one son, Carter Gholson

and wife Jennifer; two grandchildren, Alex Gholson and Claire Gholson; one sister-

in-law, Linda Stafford and husband Dell; extended family and friends.
