Birl Lewis Rimes, Jr., 88, of Wilsonville, AL and a native of Progress, MS, passed away, Friday, September 22, 2017 at his daughter's residence in Petal, MS. He was born June 1, 1929 in Progress to Birl Lewis Rimes, Sr. and Bessie Mae Polk Rimes. He was a faithful and active member and deacon for several years at both Ingalls Avenue Baptist Church in Pascagoula, MS and Wilsonville Baptist Church in Alabama. He served his country in the U.S.Army. He was retired from Chevron where he worked as a maintenance supervisor. He was a member of Pascagoula Lodge #419 F&AM and in 2008 he received his 50 year certificate. He also received the Knights of The York Cross Honour and was a 50 year member of The Order of Eastern Star #151 in Pascagoula. He also was a Charter Member of the JOPPA Temple Mystic Shrine in Pascagoula and The HAMASA Temple of Meridian, MS. He was a member of Gideon's International and loved participating in their Bible distribution program. He is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife of 33 years, Elsie Byrd Rimes; four brothers, Vernon Rimes, Tanet Rimes, J.D. Rimes and Charles Rimes and his sister, Perle Rawls. He is survived by his wife, Ida Jo DeVaughn Rimes, with whom he just celebrated 22 years of marriage on September 16, 2017; his children and their spouses, Judi and Rick Heider, Ray Rimes, Joanna and Sal Gomez, Jeanne Daughdrill, Jeff and Kristen Rimes, Angie and Martin Jones and Cynthia and Ken Murer; fifteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation is Sunday at Sharkey Funeral Home, 1023 Old Brookhaven Road, Summit, MS 39666 from 5PM until 8PM and continues Monday at Progress Baptist Church, 1010 Progress Church Road, McComb, MS 39648 from 1PM until services at 2PM with Rev. Billy Simmons and Rev. Jeff Rimes officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers are Rick Heider, Sal Gomez, Ken Murer, Zack Daughdrill, Mark Gomez and Chuck Rimes.
