Mrs. Berenice Madoline Austin Ellison, 86, formerly of Magnolia, MS, passed away at the home of her daughter April 18, 2023.
Madoline, as she was known by family and friends, was born December 10, 1936 to Merle and Irma Bueto Austin in Jamestown, New York. She grew up in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and was a 1954 graduate of Istrouma High School.
Agreeing to a blind date, Madoline met the love of her life George. After dating for nearly 3 years, they eloped to Texas and wed on Good Friday 1959. They had 2 sons and 1 daughter. The couple was married for almost 22 years until her husband's early death in February 1981.
A very loving, kind and giving person, Madoline always opened her home to anyone who needed a meal or advice or a place to stay.
She moved to Magnolia, MS in 1999, after her retirement from the Louisiana Association of Educators where she headed the membership department.
Serving in any way she could, from Sunday School teacher to Lenten Lunches, Madoline was a faithful member of Magnolia United Methodist Church.
To her 8 grandchildren, Madoline was known as a "fun grandma". She loved to spend time with them, often having movie nights and going on little adventures.
Madoline also enjoyed books and read many different genres. She and her 3 sisters had their own lending library. They also shared a love of travel and took many trips together.
Madoline is preceded in death by her parents; 3 sisters Gayle Warner, Lina Bryant and Irma Cupit.
She is survived by 2 sons: William (Linda)Ellison of Chesapeake,VA, Chris (Lesley) Ellison of Petal, MS and 1 daughter Amanda Ellison Anglin of Tylertown, MS; 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; plus a host of nieces and nephews. She loved each and everyone of you.
