Mrs. Barbara S. Evans, 82, of Magnolia, MS, passed from this life on Friday, February 3, 2023, at her residence with her loving family by her side. She was born on November 11, 1940 in McComb, MS, to Frazier Sterling and Rubye Davis Sterling.
She enjoyed spending time with her family especially if she was providing a meal for them. In her younger years, she was a stay at home mom, taking care of her boys. She was an avid reader of the Bible. She joined South McComb Baptist Church around age 14 where she met her husband. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
She is preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Gregory Sterling Evans and Dr. Vernon Scott Evans; and four brothers, Charles Sterling, Wendell Sterling and wife Lynn, Glen Sterling, and Jerry Sterling and his wife Shirley; one brother-in-law, Jerry Foster.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Phillip Evans, Sr.; two sons, Phil Evans, Jr. and his wife Anna and Chuck Evans and his wife Kay; one brother, Paul Sterling; four sisters, Frances Walker and her husband Eugene, Patricia Seale and her husband Jack, Pauline Behlar and her husband Jimmy, and Cheryl Foster; five grandchildren, Sarah Rabalais and her husband Brad, Leah Templeton and her husband Michael, Stacey Evans, Jennifer Crosby, and Henry Crosby; one great grandchild, Brayden Bordelon; and a host of family and friends.
Pallbearers are Lloyd Simmons, Ricky Sterling, Barry Rhodus, Stacy McCaskill, Kenny Pearson, and Quin Travis.
Honorary pallbearers are the Deacons of South McComb Baptist Church.
A visitation will be held Monday, February 6, 2023, at South McComb Baptist Church beginning at 10AM until time of service at 12PM with Dr. David Millican officiating. A graveside service will immediately follow at Hollywood Cemetery in McComb, MS with Sharkey Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to South McComb Baptist Church in her name.
