Obituary

Anna Jane McManus Brumfield, age 91, died peacefully at McComb Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, November 29, 2023. Jane was born June 22, 1932 in Pike County where she was blessed to have been reared and loved by wonderful, Christian foster parents, Frank and Martha Myers, along with a number of foster brothers and sisters. Jane was a loving Christian who was loved by all. Early in life she was a home maker, busy rearing and herding three sons. For a few years, she worked in the cafeteria at Jones Elementary School and later in life, was employed by Jitney Jungle Supermarket and later traveled with A. C. Nielson Company performing inventories in area stores. Later in life, she, along with second husband Mead Brumfield, truck farmed on the Brumfield Farm in Progress, MS, and provided fresh vegetables to several local food stores as well as to individuals. Jane and first husband David Lee McManus reared three sons, who provided many adventurous days. Several years after the death of husband David, she married Mead Brumfield and became a member of Silver Creek Baptist Church near Progress, MS. With the 2nd marriage, Jane acquired 5 more grown children, several grandchildren, subsequent great grandchildren and a host of new friends and neighbors.

Jane is predeceased by her foster parents, husband David Lee McManus, Sr., husband Mead Brumfield, sons Robert Keith McManus, David Lee McManus Jr., daughter in law Janella McManus, son John Brumfield and a special sister-in-law, Sylvia Brumfield.

Survivors include:  Bill McManus, (Linda), daughter in law Rebecca Tynes McManus, Terry Brumfield, (Pat), daughter Carol Brumfield Breland, (Tony), Meadette Brumfield, and Gwen Brumfield Ginn, (Robert). In addition, grandchildren, Anna Louise Burris, (Bert), Robin Spring, (Curt), Allison Miller, (Todd), Jason McManus, (Jac), Jeff Brumfield, (Lori), Davey Brumfield, (Chrissy), Kent Brumfield (Carol) and a host of wonderful great and great-great grandchildren and special niece Stacie Stinson, (Ralph).

In Jane's later life, she greatly benefited from the loving, compassionate care and generosity of neighbors, friends and church members in the Progress community. Carol and Tony Breland and Pat and Terry Brumfield provided daily support of her daily needs in her later years in a most loving and caring way. The Feed My Sheep program of Silver Creek Baptist Church provided Thursday meals to Jane and others in the community for years. These meals were much anticipated and appreciated. The visitation with the meal delivery was appreciated by Jane as much as the meal itself.

Visitation for Jane will be Friday, December 1, from 9:00 a.m. until services at 11:00 a.m. at Sharkey Funeral Home in Summit, MS. A private burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Feed My Sheep, a ministry of Silver Creek Baptist Church of Progress, MS or the Methodist Children's Home where she resided early in her life.
