Hershel Warren Tidwell

Hershel Warren Tidwell of Summit passed away on November 3, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Hershel was born June 19, 1919 in Deport, Texas the son of Ben and Josephine Westbrook Tidwell. In Texas he farmed, picked cotton, and started his family with the love of his life Earlene Johnson. They were married September 9, 1939. He served in the US Air Corps during World War II. The family moved from Texas to south Louisiana where he went to work in the oil fields. He retired from Shell Oil in 1982. Hershel and Earlene moved to Summit in 1979 to enjoy retirement.

Hershel was a gardener, a cook, a carpenter. He loved working on projects in the kitchen, garden, his workshop. He also enjoyed coaching ladies softball. He truly loved storytelling and teasing all who listened. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a member and deacon of Johnston Station Baptist Church.

Hershel was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife. They enjoyed 67 years of marriage. Also preceded by grandson, Jonny Tidwell, son-in-law Ron Boehringer and his five sisters and three half -brothers.

He is survived by four children, Don (Peggy) Tidwell of Summit, Yvette Boehringer, of Plaquemine, LA, Pam (Richard Babb), of Swannanoa, NC and Darlene (Wayne Fourroux) of Plaquemine, LA , thirteen grandchildren, twenty two great-grandchildren, two great-great- grandsons and devoted friend Charlotte Rogers.

Visitation is Sunday, November 4, 2018 at Johnston Station Baptist Church in Summit from 5 to 7 pm and Monday from 10AM until services at 11AM with Pastor Glen Bird and Robert Davis officiating. Burial will be in Johnston Station Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers are grandsons and granddaughter.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donation be made to Cemetery Fund of Johnston Station Baptist Church, 1071 Verna Lane, Summit, Mississippi 39666.

The family thanks his caregiver, Ada Grammer and St Luke Hospice staff.
